Although tuberculosis is often perceived as a disease of the past, it remains a significant public health challenge in Europe. Ongoing transmission, persistent health inequalities, and the emergence of drug-resistant strains mean that tuberculosis continues to require attention from both public health services and frontline healthcare professionals.
In this webinar, we will explore tuberculosis through the lens of the full spectrum of prevention, from primordial to quaternary prevention. Few health problems illustrate as clearly the need for action at every level of prevention—from addressing the social and environmental determinants of disease, to preventing transmission, supporting early diagnosis and effective treatment, and avoiding unnecessary interventions and treatment-related harm.
Although tuberculosis is relatively uncommon in most general practice settings, primary care teams have an important role to play across the full prevention continuum. This webinar will provide the essential knowledge every GP needs to contribute effectively to tuberculosis prevention and control.
About our speaker
Wouter Arrazola de Oñate is a physician and public health expert specialising in tuberculosis control, infectious diseases, health inequalities, and the social determinants of health. He has served as Medical Director of the Respiratoire Gezondheid (Respiratory Health) since 2007 and has extensive experience in both Belgian and international public health programmes. His work focuses on improving access to care for vulnerable populations and strengthening tuberculosis prevention and control through integrated public health and primary care approaches.
